For me these are the best total wars to date, the HUGE faction variety + the GORGEOUS models just make the game super enjoyable.
Since then I have around 500h on wh1 and 250h on wh2. I barely knew warhammer fantasy until i played total war warhammer. If you have a favorite race in age of sigmar, that you really want to play then you have to buy the game where they are playable. Having Wh2 and Wh1 unlocks a special campaign in wh2 where you can use any faction you have in a big map that uses both games maps If you enjoy Wh1 then look at DLC and/or buying Wh2. IMO: Wh1 offers more content and is normally cheaper so i recomend wh1. Warhammer 2 offers some QoL which weren't ported back to WH1.Warhammer 2 offers 4 races (skaven, lizardmen, high elves and dark elves) + 1 DLC race (tomb kings). Warhammer 1 has (currently) more content then warhammer 2: warhammer 1 offer 5 races (empire, dwarfs, brettonia, greenskins and vampire counts) + has 4 DLC races ( wood elves, beastmen, warriors of chaos and norsca).The AI has access to all the DLC, so you only need to buy what you want to play as. Each game has races "locked" which means if you want to play as a certain faction you have to buy the game (and the DLC if needed).All the 3 games will merge to make a HUGE campaign where you can play any as any race from any game. These total war warhammer will be a trilogy so expect a new game.I'll try to explain in a nutshell what you need to know before buying: This is not like starcraft where you have a "base", in battles the size and quality of your army is what you built on the campaign map. You have a turn based map where you manage your empire and when at least 2 armies meet on the map the game switches into a real time where you can command your army to victory.
You should know total war is an hybrid strategy game.
